In Act 3 Scene 6 of “King Lear”, so much activity occurred in a very short amount of time. Throughout the scene, I enjoyed how Edgar was still continuing on with his crazy antics and no one seemed terribly upset. My favorite part was when the Fool asks King Lear, “Prithee, Nuncle tell me whether a madman be a gentlemen or a yeoman?” (III, iii, 9-10) When Lear gives the incorrect response, instead of trying to nicely tell him he is incorrect, the Fool is very blunt with Lear and simply says you are wrong and here is why. This part reinforces that the Fool is able to say anything he would like and not get in trouble for it.
Finally, people are actually dying in this tragedy. While it is a little disturbing the way that Gloucester dies, it is a scene that is unforgettable. When Gloucester is getting his eyes gouged out, he is asking God for forgiveness for the way he mistreated his son, Edgar. I find it strange that he was content to be a jerk during his life, but now is full of remorse. This scene portrays the fact that Regan is a major liar. First she lied to her father about how much she loved him, and then she acted like she was on Gloucester’s side when really she had no problem killing him.
